The M Group Equips Mall of America® with Mobile Technology   |   May 28, 2010

BLOOMINGTON, MINN., May 28, 2010 – Looking to link real life with the digital world, Mall of America® is announcing collaboration  with Microsoft Tag. Among the first shopping centers to utilize the Microsoft Tag technology, Mall of America hopes to revolutionize how consumers can interact with its tenants.

“With the mounting number of smartphone users, we want to be on the forefront of evolving technology,” said Maureen Bausch, Mall of America executive vice president of business development. “Our shoppers will be able to access exclusive information when they use Tags inside our building and through our ads.”

Microsoft Tag is a breakthrough technology that transforms everyday things in the real world into live links to online information and entertainment using a 2D barcode reader. To utilize the technology, consumers must download the free Tag reader onto a web enabled camera phone. Then, they can simply snap or scan a Tag image anywhere it appears – in editorials, advertisements, product packaging, signs and storefronts – and gain instant access to Websites, videos, reviews, schedules, contact information, social networks, discounts, promotions and more.

“This retail effort is the first of its magnitude. Through this data-driven initiative, Mall of America can drive real-time sales for tenants,” said Sara Harrell, executive vice president of business development, The M Group – a marketing agency working with Mall of America on its digital communications and Microsoft partner. “With the deployment of Microsoft Tag throughout the facility, Mall of America is demonstrating its innovative nature and ability to stand at the forefront of technology.  It’s our privilege to support their efforts.”

Beginning this summer, guests will find special Mall of America Tag images at guest service desks, restaurants, retailers and more. Shoppers will be linked to interactive information on Mall-related events and promotions that will be constantly updated.
